New Scientist explores some ideas about Kangaroos and methanogenic microbes in this recent article. Readers of Small Wonders can only shake their heads in a complacent manner and say “we knew that already”.

No, I’m kidding. It’s got some good stuff and recent advances on the subject.

Also in New Scientist, while we browse this worthy publication, a bit of encouraging news for people (me! me!) who would love it if life were to be found on other planets (meeeee!), and a rather dispiriting discovery that there are microbes that are not only resistant to antibiotics, but positively thrive on the stuff and need nothing more from life than a healthy dose of medicine. That’s…well it’s just not fair.

On a more personal note, SW has been mentioned, among other microbially-related research and issues – in a Sydney Morning Herald report, which is very nice of them.  The book has also been getting reviewed here and there – here’s one review from a Christian angle, no less.

And on an even more personal note,  I would like to wish blog readers a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, whatever you may believe in. I would’ve liked to have a Christmas-related microbial item here, but as far as I can tell there is no connection between the two themes. Well, there’s this….but that’s a bit strained, really.
